Bringing life-saving surgical services to Uganda’s most vulnerable children. Through collaboration and innovation, PSFL is committed to delivering timely, safe, and equitable surgical care to every child in need.
Paediatric Surgical Foundation Limited (PSFL) is a non-governmental organization started in Uganda in 2018 by a team of dedicated paediatric surgeons. Our main goal is to promote and support safe and fair surgical services for children in Uganda. We believe that every child deserves access to proper medical and surgical care, no matter where they live.
Uganda has a very young population, with more than half of the people under the age of 15. Sadly, many children with surgical problems do not get the treatment they need in time, which can lead to serious health issues or even death. That’s why we formed PSFL — to help change this situation.
The foundation was registered on 8th May 2018 by three Ugandan paediatric surgeons: Dr. Nasser Kakembo, Dr. John Sekabira, and Dr. Phyllis Kisa, with legal guidance from Mrs. Eva Nalwanga. We work through outreach surgical camps, training programs, and public sensitization to bring surgical services closer to the communities that need them most. We also support training for future paediatric surgeons and publish research to help improve children’s surgical care in Uganda.
At PSFL, we are committed to making sure that children in Uganda can grow up healthy and live happy, productive lives.

We organize paediatric surgery camps in underserved areas to bring surgical services closer to children who need them.

We train surgical fellows and conduct workshops to improve skills among health professionals handling paediatric surgical cases.

We raise awareness among healthcare workers and communities about identifying and managing surgical conditions in children.

We collect and publish medical data to improve treatment outcomes and guide policies for children’s surgical care in Uganda.
Paediatric Surgical Foundation Limited (PSFL) is a child-centered medical organization focused on improving access to quality surgical care for children in Uganda. We operate as a legally registered non-governmental entity, working hand in hand with health institutions, communities, and international partners to close the gap in paediatric surgical services.
PSFL offers a range of programs, including outreach surgery camps, surgical skills training, health worker sensitization, and support for surgical fellowships. Our efforts are rooted in evidence-based practices, and we are actively involved in medical research, policy advocacy, and capacity building.
